Ash Wednesday Service
Christians throughout history have often set aside the four weeks leading up to Easter as a special time of self-examination, confession, and repentance. The season is called Lent, and it begins on Ash Wednesday. The day derives its name from a practice called "the imposition of ashes", where the ash from burned palm branches are used to mark the forehead with a cross as a reminder of our mortality and humility before God.
This year, we'll hold an Ash Wednesday service at St John's. We'll pray, sing, receive the imposition of ashes, and share the Lord's Supper. Join us to hear God's gracious invitation to repentance and life as the season of Lent begins, looking forward to the glorious overcoming of sin and death on Good Friday and Easter.
